Decorating with Pantone's 2021 COY: Ultimate Gray + Illuminating

Every year, Pantone chooses a Color of the Year. For 2020, its choice was very fitting being Classic Blue, which would take on a new narrative as the global pandemic arose, representing a prominent shade used for medical scrubs around the world. However, this year they decided to mix things up a bit. For just the second time in the Color of the Year’s two-decade history, Pantone has selected two colors: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, a complementary pair that resembles warmth and dependability, making it ideal for your space in the new year. As we prepare for 2021, here are three ways to incorporate the two colors into your home.

Art

Looking to get creative with your space? DDD is an epicenter of the gallery scene in the DFW Metroplex and is home to many must-see works of art ranging from French Impressionist paintings to contemporary installations. For the fine art lover, Laura Rathe Fine Art and Markowicz Fine Art (pictured above) both carry a variety of exquisite contemporary pieces featuring Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, from wall fragments to paintings on canvas. If photography is more fitting with your home style, head over to PDNB Gallery where you’ll find art photography and photo-based art that encompasses the COY. And, should you happen to be a fan of historical art, look no further than the Beaux Arts Gallery. You’ll find antique prints and rare oil paintings that showcase the warmth and dependability that these colors exude.

Fabric + Furnishings

Decorating with the COY makes for a great accent in your space. But, if you prefer to be a little bolder, or desire a total makeover, consider incorporating Ultimate Gray and/or Illuminating into the fabrics and furnishings that fill your space. Fortunately, DDD is a destination comprising many namesake interior design showrooms. Knock out two birds with one stone at Kravet, where you can choose from hundreds of ready-made fabric designs and furniture pieces. If you want more exclusive and/or custom made fabrics and furniture, stop by Schumacher (pictured above) or Gracie. And, if you’re in the market for artisan textiles or carpet, make a trip to JAMES, which offers both Texas craftsmanship and international creations.

Accents + Accessories

Perhaps you’re of the less is more mindset and you’d prefer to add subtle dashes of color throughout your space. Luckily, these two new Pantone COY selections look fab in the form of an accent or accessory. Regardless of which you choose, DDD houses a variety of shops and showrooms for you to find the perfect piece. For handmade rugs, lighting, or inspired designs your home deserves, we suggest The Rug Company or Arteriors Home. If your space exudes more vintage vibes, then check out Laura Lee Clark or Jan Showers (pictured above). And, what better way to make for an enjoyable experience than with the help of our showroom experts to guide you as you seek to bring creative color to your space.

Ready to put the phrase “out with the old and in with the new'' to action? All of us at DDD are excited and ready to help you cultivate your space of the year incorporating Pantone’s Colors of the Year. Let these colors of Ultimate Gray and Illuminating be a humbling reminder of the hardships last year brought, but the light at the end of the tunnel that this year conveys.
