Rachel Hellmann: ‘Daylight’
November 15th – December 27th, 2025
Opening Reception: November 15th, 5 - 7:00 pm
Galleri Urbane is pleased to present Rachel Hellmann’s upcoming solo exhibition, 'Daylight,' a body of minimalist shaped paintings on wood and works on paper that explore the intersection of light, architecture, and textiles. These works take shelter—both physical and emotional—as their starting point, investigating how spaces can hold memory, thought, and imagination. Join us on November 15th, from 5 - 7:00 pm to celebrate the opening reception of Daylight.
Light becomes the medium through which these experiences are activated, transforming domestic spaces into sites of reflection and daydream. The Daylight paintings capture the sense of sunlight as it enters a home, filtered through windows, doors, and curtains, interacting with walls, floors, ceilings, and reflective surfaces. They reflect, refract, and resonate against eachother in the interplay of shaped line and color. The paintings draw on the colors, patterns, and surfaces of architectural materials, furnishings, rugs, and textiles, creating luminous environments that invite contemplation. The acrylic paintings on paper, allow for a focused exploration of layered transparency, texture, and the interplay of color and light.
Layered transparency and a “woven” quality, influenced by Hellmann’s recent collage work with fabric and paper, create a sense of depth and ephemerality, echoing the work of Mary Corse, Bridget Riley, and Robert Irwin. Repeated bands of transparent color suggest edges of doors, intersecting walls, and sunlight streaming through windows.
Through Daylight, Hellmann meditates on domesticity, memory, and the transformative power of light, creating works that are as much environments as they are objects, whether on paper or wood.
