A New Name and Fresh Perspective Carries On the Legacy of
Donald J. Embree Antiques
For more than 54 years Donald J. Embree Antiques has been recognized as a prominent influence within the design industry. Setting up shop on Fairmont Street in 1961 Donald Embree accrued a fast following of esteemed interior designers who sought the finest in eighteenth and nineteenth century antiques and rare home furnishings. Consistent growth and developing dealer relationships prompted Donald to move his work and treasured collection to Slocum Street in 1984 where he kept a discreet presence and continued to service the best of the trade. In the early '90s Donald recruited Marc Lake to help finesse their burgeoning clientele and buying demands. Marc's early career furthered the store's status as the quintessential antique shop for the savvy designer. His interior design talents enhanced Donald J. Embree's service offerings and his keen eye advanced their well followed and often exclusive buying practices. Marc's contributions led to a partnership in the business and Don, prior to his 2011 passing, asked Marc to carry on the store's pursuits. With honor Marc accepted the wish to preserve Donald's business intent without neglecting the stores evolution. As the current owner of the firm foundation Donald poured, Marc pushes onward with the sustainable characteristics of the past and implements modern and applicable practices. Relevant pieces are now woven into the fine antique showroom vignettes and expansion of the collection will continue to grow well beyond Don's initial English and French focus. A refreshed marquee sign debuted early this month displaying a new business name, Embree & Lake, which marries the past and the future of this Slocum Street favorite. To further celebrate the new name and showcase the freshly staged showroom, Embree & Lake will host a soiree on February 10th benefiting the beloved philanthropy Dwell with Dignity.
