As DFW businesses slowly but surely begin to reopen, and as vaccinations become more widespread and readily available to all, we’re finally in a position in which we can safely begin to enjoy the many Dallas Design District amenities that we’ve missed so much. And, contrary to popular belief, the DDD is more than just a haven for design industry professionals. Upscale yet eclectic, our neighborhood consists of namesake design showrooms, fine art galleries, a vast array of dining establishments, and various other family-friendly destinations. So, before the hustle and bustle of the summer season starts, pencil in our recommendations of DDD must-dos!
Stop by the showrooms.
It’s no secret the Dallas Design District is an integral piece of the Dallas design scene. This being the case, it’s no surprise that the DDD is home to a curated selection of the top showrooms in the country. So, why not soak in all of the beauty and inspiration each of these showrooms serves up by visiting them in person? Whether it’s a simple window-shopping trip or an in-store shopping experience, take time to peruse the new collections and styled vignettes while enjoying the in-person experience we’ve all missed so much. One brand new shop we highly suggest stopping by? Samuel & Sons fifth flagship showroom (pictured above), now open in the Design Center. Pro-tip: Before you head out, check with the showrooms you plan to visit to ensure you’re up-to-speed on their current operating protocols.
Go Gallery Hopping.
What better way to get a healthy dose of culture than by taking in a gallery show? Fortunately, with 30+ galleries located in and around the DDD, there’s always an exhibit to satisfy any particular penchant. Read on to see what you can expect when gallery-hopping in the DDD this month.
At Ferrari Gallery, take in new oil and acrylic abstract canvas paintings from the Adler Collection, created by the gallery owner, not to mention one of Dallas’s leading female artists, Debra Ferrari. For an immersive experience, head to Galleri Urbane for B. Chehayeb’s solo exhibition, “Only The Very Young” (pictured above), a painting-based installation through which a number of significant personal memories are recounted. Additionally this month, Galleri Urbane is hosting Liss LaFleur's second solo exhibition with their gallery "Don't Worry Baby". This show features the third and latest installment of LaFleur’s Sapphic Serenade body of work, an ongoing series of bi-annually produced site-specific installations that combines video, performance, and synthetic fringe. To catch a plethora of shows in one spot, stop into Conduit Gallery to see the three solo exhibitions they currently have on view: “Feeling Like an Abstraction”, by Austin-based artist Erin Curtis, “New Paintings from the Whidbey Series”, by Robert Jessup, and “Lap Work: Pandemic Stitching” by Dallas-based artist, Susie Phillips. Last but certainly not least, make your way to Laura Rathe Fine Art Gallery to enjoy artist Meredith Pardue’s newest solo exhibition, “I AM THE SUN,” which is rooted in humankind’s relationship with the sun, and the inherent mystery and rituals this relationship has inspired throughout human history.
Enjoy an eatery.
Over the years, the DDD has become a mecca for local foodies looking to indulge in anything from a quick caffeine fix to a five-star dining experience. So now that our eateries are back open for biz, plan a trip to the one you’ve missed most! Whether that means splurging on upscale Italian-inspired cuisine at The Charles (pictured above), a sushi extravaganza at Oak, pizza night at Pie Tap, or good old fashion tacos + margs at El Bolero, sit back, relax, and allow us to take the reins and serve you. Regardless of what you’re craving, you can rely on one of our many restaurants to accommodate.
