Every spring and fall, tens of thousands of designers, showroom proprietors and retailers flock to North Carolina to attend High Point Market to check out new furniture designs and products and scout the season’s newest trends.
This fall, the folks from the DDD’s McGannon Showroom braved a hurricane to visit High Point Market, and they brought back an exciting trend forecast to share with us. Here's what they say we'll be seeing in the world of design in the coming months.
Colors
Pastels are still going strong, but expect to see saturated jewel tones making a comeback this fall. You’ll find velvets, chenilles and even leather in emerald, sapphire and ruby hues. Pairing these rich shades with warmer wheats, golds and oatmeal tones — rather than the now-ubiquitous grey — will make them pop.
Performance Fabrics
Everyone wants furniture that looks good but is also livable. If you have kids and pets who are rough on furnishings or an outdoor furniture that needs to be able to withstand sun and rain, look to tough, high-performance fabrics like Sunbrella, Revolution and Krypton to do the job.
Prints
Ethnic prints in bold patterns and warm colors are a big player this coming season. Design a Moroccan paradise with upholstered pieces or add a touch of African or Indian flair to a bedroom or sitting room with textured accents.
Traditional + Modern
Just like you don’t have to choose between design and livability, you don’t have to choose between modern design and your favorite antiques. Mix things up this fall by juxtaposing traditional and antique furniture in a modern setting. The charm of furnishings from a favorite era paired with newer pieces is a welcome trend.
Menswear Textiles
Plaids, flannels and wool in greys, blues and browns made a big showing at this October’s HPMKT. These masculine patterns look perfect in a study or den with the additional bonus of providing some texture.
Whites
Last but not least, the team from McGannon’s told us be ready to see white everywhere. From paints to stains and lacquers, an understated and sophisticated white dominated everything from furniture to accessories to bedding.
