Stephen D’Onofrio: Fruit Roll Out
The 11th Annual Gift Edit
November 15th – December 27th, 2025
Opening Reception: November 15th, 5 - 7:00 pm
Galleri Urbane is excited to announce the 11th annual Gift Edit, presenting this year’s Fruit Roll Out: new printed editions on both canvas and paper from Stephen D’Onofrio. Join us from 5 - 7:00pm on Saturday, November 15th, for the preview of Stephen’s Fruit Roll Out.
Building on the style of his past work, the prints feature fruit piles, bowls of fruit, Arborist motifs, and botanical forms rendered in pigmented ink on paper or printed canvas editions, with hand-painted details that balance mass production with the artist’s hand.
Drawing on the history of botanical illustration—once commissioned by scientists, patrons, and explorers—D’Onofrio reinterprets these traditions through a contemporary lens of pop culture, kitsch, and surface design. This marks the first time his popular fruit tree paintings and still lifes are available in a printed medium.
D’Onofrio’s flowers and fruit are rendered at varying stages of blossom and ripeness, with leaves that appear full and lilting. Perspective and depth are adjusted for clarity, reflecting the educational purpose at the heart of botanical illustration. The masters who inspire D’Onofrio produced such works as extensive research projects, often commissioned by viceroys, scientists, or wealthy patrons. These images, once requiring exceptional expertise and investment, have endured across centuries, migrating into the everyday realm of surface design, as D’Onofrio notes.
Stylistically aligned with his past exhibitions, these new works incorporate playful pop-culture references, varied scale, and refined design elements. Executed in pigmented ink with hand-painted acrylic details on canvas, the series engages with mass production, kitsch, and art-historical reference.
