The Dallas weather forecast is calling for sunny and 80 on Saturday and, wouldn't you know, art on Dragon Street. Dragon.Open is back this Saturday and if you haven't joined the cool kids to gallery hop in the Design District, you are out of excuses. There is A LOT happening in the neighborhood but here are a few I wouldn't miss.
Over at Circuit 12 Contemporary you'll want to check out "Tears for Fears," a solo show by Josh Von Ammon. Rather than attempting to summarize, here's the gallery's statement about the show. "Tears for Fears" is a phrase utilized by Arthur Janov to illustrate the "process of purging the self through the re-expression of past emotional memory." "Painting born in the representation of the real, follows a path into the depths of the mind... Ultimately it is only the painting that knows its thingness, the painting determines its qualities, the painter need not exist."
Through painting it seems Van Ammon is attempting to express the internal mind with the painting communicating for itself the internal workings of the painter's mind. Show opens Saturday night.
SMINK will present "City Grid/Urban Patterns" on Saturday, May 17 featuring the work of Kathryn Clark, Dennis Ekstedt, Timothy Hearsum, Diane McGregor and Thel. Their work, as the exhibition title implies, will explore the city's grid through various media.
Conduit will host a show featuring the work of Ellen Berman, Sandra Ono and Rosalyn Bodycomb. The opening reception will run from 6-8pm this Saturday, May 17.
This Saturday Red Arrow Contemporary is bringing back "The Best" their second annual show featuring a work of art from a student in each of the area's MFA programs. This year the artists featured will be:
SMU MELISSA TRAN TCU COURTNEY HAMILTON TWU LINDSEY DUNNAGAN UD RACHAEL ANDERSON UNT AARON FLYNN UTA JEAN FERNANDES UTD JESSE GRIFFITH
Don't miss this one.
